Shubman Gill has not been officially excluded from India’s first match
Before their opening match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media and mentioned that Shubman Gill, his opening partner, hasn’t been definitively ruled out yet. Gill has had a remarkable 2023, particularly in ODIs, amassing an impressive 1230 runs with five centuries, including a double hundred against New Zealand.
Despite reports of Shubman Gill being diagnosed with dengue fever, Rohit Sharma informed the press that the team management will not confirm his unavailability until the final moments.
He said: “Gill is not feeling well, giving him every chance to see how he feels. Not ruled out yet. Shubman Gill is sick, I feel for him. I want him to be well. As a human being first, not as captain. He is a young boy, has fit body and he will recovery.”
The home team emerged victorious in the recent ODI series against Australia, but this achievement might not hold much weight as Australia typically elevates its performance during World Cups.
