ICC Drops Official Anthem As A Single: Cricket’s New Sonic Identity

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is thrilled to announce that the ICC Anthem, composed and produced by renowned film and television composer Lorne Balfe, is now available for download and streaming across major platforms. This iconic piece of music has been crafted to serve as the new sonic identity of the ICC and its global events, including the World Cup tournaments. The anthem captures the essence of cricket, spanning all formats—Test matches, One-Day Internationals, and T20.

Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, the score incorporates the sounds synonymous with cricket—like the crack of leather on willow and the roar of the crowd—evoking the emotions that fans experience throughout the game. Whether it’s the excitement, tension, or joy that cricket delivers, the anthem aims to resonate with supporters worldwide.

Anthem’s Global Debut and Fan Reception

First introduced during the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, held in the West Indies and the USA, the anthem received an overwhelmingly positive reception. It played a prominent role in stadiums and on broadcasts, adding to the event’s atmosphere and becoming an integral part of the experience by the tournament’s end. Fans can now enjoy the anthem on streaming platforms, and the ICC looks forward to embedding it further in upcoming events, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Chris Tetley, ICC’s Head of Events, expressed his satisfaction with how the anthem was received, stating, “It blended perfectly into the event, and we’re excited to continue using it in future tournaments.” He also highlighted the anthem’s availability as a single, allowing fans to enjoy the music wherever they are.

Lorne Balfe shared his inspiration behind the creation, saying, “Cricket is a sport that brings out a wide range of emotions in fans—tension, excitement, awe, and even disappointment. It’s also a game that connects families and cultures. These emotions fueled my work, and I’m delighted the anthem is now available for everyone to enjoy.”

In addition to the anthem release, the ICC also launched an official film, offering fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process and recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios.
