The hosting of 2024 T20 World Cup matches in the United States (USA) caused a $20M loss to the International Cricket Council (ICC) according to a PTI report. Moreover, it was further reported that discussions about ICC’s Annual Conference which kicks off on Friday, July 19th at Colombo will feature this debacle at one point among many others one can only guess.
The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, where Rohit Sharma captained India to victory, was shared by the West Indies and the United States of America. Gaming took place in Dallas, New York City, and Lauderhill, Florida in the context of the championship. Its highlight was on June 9 when India played against Pakistan at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium located in New York.

Despite so many promotions, a majority of the T20 World Cup matches in the U.S. were in front of scattered audiences. The topic of losses suffered during the T20 World Cup is not in the nine-point agenda of the ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM), according to the PTI report, it might instead be approached as a post-event report’.
Jay Shah’s potential appointment as ICC chairman may also be discussed at the AGM
It has been said that there is also a lot of buzz surrounding whether Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, will succeed Greg Barclay as ICC Chairman. This is expected to be thoroughly addressed at the AGM as well.
“It is not about how but when, as he still has one year left as BCCI secretary before his cooling off period in Indian board starts in 2025 as per constitution. However, if he has to take over in 2025, then Barclay can’t complete his third term of two years from December 2024 to December 2026,” PTI quoted an ICC source as saying.
“There is a school of thought that what if ICC’s chairmanship term changes from three terms of two years each to two terms of three years, so the cumulative term can remain six years,” the source added.

Let me simplify this, if hypothetically Barclays serves a three year term currently this means Shah too has a chance to serve bcci for another six years. He could take over as ICC chairperson for another three years term starting from 2025 when this should be taking place just as his cooling off period expires for BCCI, thereafter by 2028 Shah may make a comeback as BCCI’s Head.
