Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has lauded the Afghanistan cricket team as “very good and mature”. He added that they should not be taken lightly in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Afghanistan is second on the Group 2 points table with two wins in three matches. They will take on India next, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on November 3. A win against the Virat Kohli-led team will consolidate their position further on the points table.
Previewing the clash for Sportskeeda, Harbhajan Singh expressed that Afghanistan’s spin-duo, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman is a major threat to oppositions. He said:
“You cannot take Afghanistan lightly, they are a very good and mature team. They have decent batters and their spin duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman-Rashid Khan is a lethal combination. This format is such that, till the end, you cannot predict which team will win or lose. The team that is ahead after the first six overs is likely to have the advantage. The chances of making a comeback become very slim after that.”
Afghanistan is capable of defeating big sides: Harbhajan Singh
India has a dominating record against Afghanistan in International cricket. Head-to-head the two teams have played five matches across formats, out of which, India has won four, while one match ended in a tie. Off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh believes the past records do not matter. He expressed that how we play in the present is most important. Harbhajan Singh said:
“As a cricketer, I don’t believe in past records. I find stats useless. What has happened before, we cannot assume that it will happen again. If that was the case, we beat Pakistan 12 times, and we should have won the 13th time as well. We cannot change the past. What matters is how we play in the present. We had beaten them earlier but that Afghanistan team was in the making, now they are ready. That’s a big difference. This Afghanistan team is capable of defeating big sides.”
