The upcoming edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 has been shifted to the UAE, confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly.

The tournament which was scheduled to take place in Australia last year was called off due to the covid pandemic across the globe. This is around India was slated to host the event but it will now be shifted to the UAE.
The emergence of the second wave of COVID19 had put the ICC T20 World Cup in jeopardy. BCCI adopted a slow approach to decide on the venue and sought some time from ICC to finalise the logistics.
But, with the ongoing situation in the country, Sourav Ganguly & Co has decided to shift the entire tournament to the UAE. The hosting rights of the T20 World Cup remain with the BCCI. Speaking to ANI, Jay Shah said that the ICC will decide the dates for the tournament.
“We will inform the International Cricket Council today that we are shifting T20 World Cup to UAE. Dates will be decided by the ICC,” Shah told ANI.
The tournament will kick off on October 17 with the final scheduled on November 14.
T20 World Cup’s Super-12 leg to start from October 24
The first round of the T20 World Cup will see 12 matches, comprising the eight teams – Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, Namibia, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea. Four of them will progress to the Super 12s, where they will join the other eight teams. The matches for Round 1 won’t be played at the major venues.
The T20 World Cup’s Super 12-leg will comprise 30 matches and will be played at the three major UAE venues – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. This leg of the World Cup is scheduled to start on October 24. The teams will be split into two groups, with two from each making it to the semi-finals, followed by the final.
