The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed former West Indies cricket star Dwayne Bravo as the Bowling Consultant for the Afghanistan National Team for the T20 World Cup 2024. Bravo will join the team during their preparation camp ahead of the tournament, which will be held in the Caribbean.
Dwayne John Bravo, a 40-year-old former all-rounder for the West Indies, boasts an impressive cricketing resume. Throughout his career, he played 295 international matches, scored 6423 runs, and took 363 wickets. His extensive experience includes 100 First-Class matches, 227 List A matches, and 573 T20 matches.
Bravo currently holds the record for the most wickets in T20 cricket, with 625, and has also scored nearly 7000 runs in the format, cementing his reputation as one of the most successful fast-bowling all-rounders in T20 cricket. Bravo is celebrated worldwide for his exciting and entertaining style of play, which has earned him multiple titles, including the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, Indian Premier League (IPL), and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
In addition to his international playing career, Bravo recently served as the Bowling Coach for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024. The Afghanistan squad, led by Rashid Khan, has arrived in St. Kitts and Nevis for a 10-day training camp to prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team’s coaching staff, including Bravo, will oversee this camp.
Afghanistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign with a Group C match against Uganda on June 4. Their subsequent matches will be against New Zealand on June 8, Papua New Guinea on June 14, and co-hosts West Indies on June 18. Success in these matches could see Afghanistan advance to the Super Eights if they finish in the top two of their group.
