England had a great start with a commanding win over West Indies in the 2nd match of the Super 8 stage on Thursday in St Lucia. West Indies were asked to bat first after England captain Jos Buttler won the toss. Johnson Charles and Brandon King showed their class with attacking shots. With the scoreboard reading 40 King retired hurt after injuring himself while running.

Nicolas Pooran and Johnson Charles struggled against disciplined England bowling with a lot of dot deliveries. Rovman Powell showed his class by smashing Livingstone for 3 successive sixes that shifted the momentum. Livingstone returned taking the wicket of Powell for 36 off 17 balls. Powell and Pooran added 43 runs for the 2nd wicket.

The England bowlers showed their death bowling not allowing as Nicolas Pooran made 36 off 32 balls. Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 28 off 15 deliveries posted an impressive total of 180 for 4.  Four England bowlers took 1 wicket each.

In reply, Phil Salt was given a reprieve early on by Nicolas Pooran. He made them pay with aggressive shots keeping the momentum going for defending champions England. Salt and Buttler put on 67 runs for the opening wicket laying a strong foundation.  Moeen Ali fell cheaply which gave some hope for West Indies.

Salt reached fifty off just 38 balls keeping the momentum going for England. After reaching his milestone, Salt took apart West Indies bowling keeping the scoreboard ticking along with Bairstow. England won the match with ease by 8 wickets with 15 balls to spare.

Phil Salt made use of the batting conditions keeping the scoreboard ticking not allowing the West Indies bowlers to settle. Salt and Bairstow smashed 30 runs of Alazzari Joseph that shifted the match completely in favor of England’s favor.

They would be hoping to contiune their winning momentum in the remaining two Super 8 matches.
