ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Final: [WATCH]- Arshdeep Singh Removes Aiden Markram With A Stunner

Team India‘s left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh hit early with the new ball to remove South Africa captain Aiden Markram in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. The right-handed batter edged a delivery to the keeper, declining South Africa’s start to their run chase at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.

Chasing a target of 177, set by a fifty from Virat Kohli and valuable contributions from other batters, South Africa faced an early setback when Jasprit Bumrah bowled Reeza Hendricks with a brilliant delivery in the second over. Markram, who came in next, started his innings with a boundary but was dismissed in the very next over.

Attempting an extravagant drive off Arshdeep Singh’s delivery outside the off stump, Markram only managed to edge the ball. Rishabh Pant took a composed catch behind the stumps, marking India’s second breakthrough in the match.

After losing Aiden Markram early, South Africa found themselves at 12-2 by the third over. They are now focused on recovering and making the most of the remaining powerplay overs. Currently, Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs are handling the Indian bowlers.

Aiden Markram had a disappointing T20 World Cup performance with the bat

Aiden Markram made history by leading South Africa to their first ICC event final as captain. However, he struggled with the bat throughout the unbeaten run. Starting with the first three matches in New York, South African batsmen faced difficulties, and Markram was no exception.

The captain managed only 31 runs in the group stage, including a duck against the Netherlands. He showed promise with a positive 46-run innings in the victory over USA in the Super 8 stage and played an unbeaten cameo in the semi-final win against Afghanistan.

Despite these contributions, his overall tournament performance was disappointing, finishing with 123 runs from nine innings.
