The Afghanistan cricket team has suffered a setback during the 2024 T20 World Cup as off-spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman sustained a finger injury. This injury will sideline him for the rest of the tournament, and Hazratullah Zazai will replace him.
The 23-year-old has been a key player in Afghanistan’s white-ball team, particularly excelling in the T20 format. In 46 T20Is, the off-spinner has taken 59 wickets at an average of 18.10, with an economy rate of 6.35, including one five-wicket haul.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Mujeeb has played only one match, recording figures of 3-0-16-1 against Uganda in a 125-run victory at Providence, Guyana. Opening batter Hazratullah Zazai, who was already in their reserves, has been called up to replace him.

Afghanistan headline their impressive 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with a decisive victory over New Zealand
Representing their war-torn nation, Afghan cricketers have been outstanding in the 9th edition of the T20 World Cup. The team from the subcontinent began their campaign with a 125-run victory over Uganda, followed by their first-ever win against New Zealand in any format.
On Thursday, they eliminated the Kiwis from the competition by defeating Papua New Guinea, securing their place in the Super 8 stage. Their final group match will be against co-hosts West Indies on Tuesday in Gros Islet.
Rashid Khan and his team will then face India (June 22) and Australia (June 23) in the Super 8 stage. Although they have yet to beat either team in any format, they are confident of pulling off an upset given their current form.
