South Africa named a strong 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America. Aiden Markram has been appointed as the captain for Proteas.
Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klassen, Tristian Stubbs, and David Miller comprise of strong batting order that can change the course of the game with their power hitting. Aiden Markram will play a key role in the middle order depending upon the situation. Ryan Rickleton is one of the new entrants for South Africa in this tournament due to his brilliance in the SA T20 League 2024.
The pace bowling options for South Africa look strong with the likes of Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, and Gerald Coetzee. Othniel Baartman is the second new entrant in the team with good quality pace that can trouble the batters.
Anrich Nortje would be making a comeback to the international circuit after a gap of nine months due to an injury. Keshav Maharaj, Shamsi, and Fortuin are the three spin bowling options that South Africa consists of for the tournament. Aiden Markram could be a handful with his part-time spin bowling.
Temba Bavuma, Wayne Parnell, and Rilee Rossouw would be the main exclusions from the 2022 T20 World Cup.
T20 World Cup schedule for South Africa
The Proteas have been clubbed in the group of death with Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Nepal, and Bangladesh. South Africa could not for the semi-finals as they lost to the Netherlands in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup held in Australia.
South Africa would begin their journey against Sri Lanka at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, East Meadow, New York on 3rd June 2024. Their next match would see them take against the Netherlands on 8th June in New York.
Markram-led side would feature against Bangladesh on 10th June in New York. They will play their final group match with Nepal at Arnos Vale Stadium, Kingstown, St Vincent.
