Arshdeep Singh, India’s new-ball bowler, made crucial breakthroughs by taking two wickets in a single over, causing early trouble for Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Nassau International County Stadium in New York on Wednesday.
Both Paul Stirling and Andy Balbrinie found it challenging to score against India‘s opening bowlers and were dismissed for single-digit scores. In the third over’s first delivery, Stirling attempted a pull shot but ended up hitting the ball high on the bat, leading to his dismissal.
Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper, showed agility in catching the ball after covering a considerable distance. The over’s final delivery saw Arshdeep Singh disturb Balbirnie’s stumps as he failed to connect while attempting to guide the ball to the third-man area.

Beforehand, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first, stating his uncertainty about the wicket’s nature. He mentioned that the Men in Blue would field four seamers, with Hardik Pandya included, along with two spin-bowling all-rounders Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja.
Virat Kohli, following his impressive performance in IPL 2024, is expected to partner with Rohit at the top of the innings. The Ireland captain also expressed a desire to field first.
Arshdeep Singh also took two wickets in the warm-up match against Bangladesh
The left-arm seamer delivered an outstanding performance against Bangladesh in the warm-up match, securing figures of 3-0-12-2 and dismissing Soumya Sarkar and Litton Das. The Men in Blue clinched a commanding victory by 60 runs, with notable contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya with the bat.
Ireland enters the series following a spirited display against Pakistan, where they won the opening T20I but lost the subsequent two matches. However, they are still seeking their first victory against the Men in Blue in T20I cricket.
