South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen hit a decisive six off West Indies fast bowler Obed McCoy to seal his team’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup in Antigua on Monday, June 24. Jansen remained unbeaten on 21 runs off 14 balls including 1 six and 1 four , took the Proteas into the semi-finals.

The remarkable shot came in the final over of South Africa’s rain-affected 17-over run chase. McCoy delivered a full-length ball, which Jansen powerfully drove over long-on for six. Planting his front foot and swinging with precision, Jansen cleared the boundary, igniting celebrations among the Proteas fans and players.

SA defeats WI by 3 wickets in a 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 thriller to reach the semifinals

South Africa defeated the West Indies with the score of 3 wickets in an interesting 2024 T20 World Cup Super-eight match, removing away with the hosts from the tournament. Chasing a revised target of 123, SA reached the goal with five balls remaining.

Tristan Stubbs led the scoring with 29 off 27 balls, hitting four fours. Heinrich Klaasen and captain Aiden Markram contributed 22 (10) and 18 (15) respectively. Marco Jansen held firm as wickets fell around him, guiding his team to victory.

Roston Chase delivered an outstanding performance for WI, taking 3/12 in his three overs. Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph additionally claimed two wickets each.

Batting first, WI were 135/8 in 20 overs. Chase hit 52 off 42 balls, including 2 sixes and 3 fours. Kyle Mayers contributed 35 off 34, whilst Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph added 15 (9) and 11* (7) respectively. For SA, Tabraiz Shamsi became the standout bowler with figures of 3/27.

The T20 World Cup semi-finals will take location on June 27 in Trinidad and Guyana. The semi-final matchups could be determined after the final Super 8 games: India vs. Australia and Afghanistan vs. Bangladesh on June 24.
