Steven Taylor hit a six that struck a security guard at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium during the 2024 T20 World Cup match between India and co-hosts USA on Wednesday, June 12. The guard, not watching the ball, was hit in the chest and appeared hurt by the powerful shot.
The injury could have been severe, but many locals didn’t realize the potential danger due to their unfamiliarity with cricket. Interestingly, the guard didn’t shield himself, possibly due to the similarity between cricket and baseball shots.
The incident occurred in the ninth over of the USA innings. Shivam Dube bowled a short ball, and Taylor stepped back, pulling it over mid-wicket for a 77-meter six.

USA sets a 111-run target for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup match
A precise bowling performance enabled India to restrict the USA to 110/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Alongside Steven Taylor, Nitish Kumar was notable with the bat, scoring 27 off 23 balls, including one six and two boundaries.
Corey Anderson, stand-in captain Aaron Jones, Harmeet Singh, and Shadley van Schalkwyk also reached double digits. Arshdeep Singh achieved the best-ever figures for India in a T20 World Cup, finishing with 4/9, while Hardik Pandya took two wickets.
Both India and the USA are entering this match with two consecutive wins in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma and his team defeated Ireland by eight wickets and then secured a close six-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan. They now aim for a third consecutive win in the major ICC event.
Meanwhile, the USA defeated Canada by seven wickets in their opening match and then surprised Babar Azam’s team with a five-run victory in a Super Over thriller. They are now eager to upset the Men in Blue.
