ICC T20 World Cup 2024: [WATCH] “Well Done, Rahul!”- Rahul Dravid Laughs About Using Urdu Words In The Press Conference

During most interviews, Team India head coach Rahul Dravid usually communicates in English. Yet, he expressed delight in using an Urdu term correctly while responding to a question in Hindi during a recent press conference before India’s T20 World Cup opener.

When asked about the possibility of India facing Ireland on June 5 and whether complacency could be a concern for the team, Dravid dismissed the notion, stating:

“Iss format mein, ye format hi yehi hai ki aap kisiko nazarandaaz ya lightly nahi le sakte (This format itself is such that you just cannot overlook anyone or take anyone lightly).”

Upon speaking the term ‘nazarandaaz,’ Rahul Dravid was visibly impressed with himself, showcasing both his self-satisfaction and a touch of humor with a witty remark. He further remarked:

“Waah! Not bad. Well done, Rahul! (Laughs)”

During the press conference, Dravid affirmed that the T20 World Cup 2024 marks his last stint as India’s head coach.

He stated his decision not to seek reappointment for the role and conveyed appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional Indian players during his nearly three-year tenure.

Rohit Sharma acknowledged his unsuccessful effort to persuade Rahul Dravid

Ahead of the match against Ireland, Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed reporters and disclosed his attempt to persuade Rahul Dravid to reconsider applying for the coaching position. However, Rohit also emphasized his respect for Dravid’s decision to prioritize other aspects of life. Here’s Rohit’s statement:

“I tried convincing him to stay, but obviously, there are a lot of things that he needs to look after as well. But yeah, I’ve personally enjoyed my time with him. I’m sure the rest of the guys will say the same. It’s been great working with him and I hope…I’m not going to say anything, actually. I’m not going to say anything.”

Rohit appeared somewhat emotional as he discussed Rahul Dravid’s influence on his career, both as a senior player and later as a coach. Team India aims to give Dravid a memorable farewell by clinching victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.
