The West Indies Cricket Team registered a thumping win over debutant Uganda at Providence Stadium, Guyana on 9th June 2024. West Indies captain Rovman Powell won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a quickfire start by Johnson Charles who struggled against disciplined Uganda bowling.

Ramjani got the breakthrough for Uganda dismissing Brandon King. King and Charles added 41 runs laying a strong foundation for a big total. Nicolas Pooran came to the crease and showed intent right from the word go. Uganda captain Brian Musaba got the wicket of Pooran with a simple return catch. Pooran and Charles added 35 runs for the 2nd wicket. Johnson Charles looked impressive with positive intent keeping momentum going for West Indies.

Nakrani struck to get rid of dangerous Charles. It was a brilliant batting performance by the West Indies batters as they kept the momentum going as the hosts posted 173 for 5 in 20 overs. Uganda captain Brian Musaba took 2 for 31 in 4 overs.

West Indies Bowlers Created History

The West Indies bowlers showed their bowling skills not allowing the Uganda batters to score runs easily picking wickets. Akeal Hossein looked in superb form with disciplined lines and lengths. He dismissed Roger Musaka off the second delivery of the innings. It was a brilliant bowling effort by the West Indies as they kept picking wickets at regular intervals.

Akeal Hossein showed his class with figures of 5 for 11 in 4 overs. Alzarri Joseph took 2 for 6, and Romario, Andre Russell, and Gudakesh Motie took 1 wicket each. West Indies will now play New Zealand in their 3rd match of the Group Stage. They would qualify for the Super 8 stage if they win against Kiwis.

West Indies registered an emphatic 134-run to increase their net run rate. They are currently at the number 2 spot. They registered the 2nd highest victory margin in T20 World Cups. Sri Lanka still holds the record for the highest victory margin. They achieved this feat against Kenya in the 2007 edition played in South Africa.

West Indies occupies the second spot winning by 134 runs against Uganda. South Africa and Afghanistan registered big wins on two occasions.
