Veteran Team India batter Shikhar Dhawan expressed that if he was the Indian selector he would have picked Shubman Gill over himself in the ODI squad. Shubman Gill has been in tremendous form in International cricket. He has been the best batter across formats in 2023 for Team India.
This year, Shubman Gill has scored 980 runs at an average of 61.25, slamming five centuries, including a double-hundred in ODIs. His outstanding performance has sidelined veteran opener, Shikhar Dhawan. However, Dhawan isn’t upset with it and is happy for the youngster. Speaking to Aaj Tak, he said,
I feel Shubman was already playing both formats and doing really well, both Tests and T20Is. If was playing more matches on the international circuit. If I was the selector, I would’ve given chance to Shubman.”
When asked if he would pick Shubman Gill over himself, Shikhar Dhawan said, “Yes, I would.”
Whatever is in my hand, I want to do that: Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan has a good record for Team India in international cricket. He last played for the country in December 2022 against Bangladesh at Chattogram. He managed just 18 runs in three innings and hasn’t played since then. The opening batter expressed that he will keep working hard to make a comeback, but even if it doesn’t happen, he will have no regrets. Shikhar Dhawan said,
“Even if the opportunity doesn’t come, I won’t have the regret in my heart that I didn’t prepare myself. Whatever is in my hand, I want to do that.”
Shikhar Dhawan will be seen in action for the Punjab Kings in the upcoming 2023 Indian Premier League season. He was their leading run-scorer last season, scoring 460 runs at an average of 38.33, with three half-centuries. The veteran cricket will be playing a vital role for the franchise in the tournament.
