The second season of the ILT20 (UAE’s T20 league) is set to kick off on January 13 next year, featuring an array of high-profile overseas signings. Major cricketers such as David Warner, Mark Wood, Shadab Khan, and Ambati Rayudu have been snapped up by various teams, creating an exciting lineup for fans.

David Warner and Mark Wood, who recently faced off as rivals in the Ashes, will now join forces at the Dubai Capitals. Shadab Khan, on the other hand, will be seen playing alongside his Pakistani teammates Shaheen Shah Afridi and Azam Khan at the Desert Vipers.

The absence of Pakistani players in the first season has been addressed with Shadab’s inclusion in the Vipers. Notably, Ambati Rayudu, who retired from all Indian cricket after IPL 2023, is currently playing in the CPL. He has been signed up by MI Emirates. Other significant signings include Martin Guptill and Maheesh Theekshana, who will be representing Sharjah Warriors alongside Lewis Gregory.

The squads have seen a flurry of activity with other franchises securing key players. The Dubai Capitals have not only acquired Warner and Wood but also added Andrew Tye, Dasun Shanaka, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Sam Billings to their roster. Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have signed on players like Josh Little, Laurie Evans, Ravi Bopara, and David Willey, while the defending champions Gulf Giants have welcomed Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Apart from these names, several emerging talents are joining the league as well. MI Emirates has drafted Kusal Perera, Akeal Hosein, and Corey Anderson. USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar and Noshtush Kenjige have been picked by the Giants and MI Emirates, respectively. The mix also includes players from the Netherlands and Scotland, reflecting the league’s international flavour.

However, scheduling conflicts might arise due to the concurrent running of the ILT20 with South Africa’s SA20 league and the BBL. Additionally, England’s five-Test tour of India, beginning on January 25, could lead to early departures of players like Joe Root and Mark Wood from the ILT20.

As the squads continue to take shape, cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the start of the ILT20 Season 2, which promises to deliver thrilling cricketing action with its star-studded lineup and international representation.
