India’s dynamic opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has shared his enthusiasm for playing against the in-form Bangladesh team in the upcoming two-Test series. The Indian team will kick off their 10-match Test season with their first game against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai starting September 19.
Jaiswal also mentioned that he is continually working hard in order to make progress as he finds himself in the international team. He further disclosed how he started from a humble background and made it big in domestic cricket.
Importantly, Jaiswal is currently India’s highest run-scorer in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle of 2023-25. The left-handed batsman opened his international test career in the West Indies with a Century under his belt. In just nine test matches, he has scored 1028 runs at an average of 68.53 including two double centuries.
Overall, he trails only the in-form Joe Root, who has accumulated 1,373 runs in 16 Tests. Jaiswal will be eager to maintain his form against Bangladesh. In a recent conversation with Jio Cinema at the Duleep Trophy, Yashasvi Jaiswal mentioned (via ANI):
“I think they’ve been playing well. It’ll be fun to match up with them, it’s fun to play test matches regardless. I’m really looking forward to that.”
“I don’t overthink, I just need to prepare well and keep improving myself as a player. The more I repeat these steps, the better I’ll get. I have worked hard to keep up my form and continue to do so to ensure I maintain it. The more consistent I stay with my practice and preparation; my results will improve,” he added.
The ongoing Duleep Trophy has Yashasvi Jaiswal representing India B. Against India A, he hit a total of 30 runs off 59 balls with six boundaries. The 22-year-old will hope to recover in the second innings.

Since last year, Australia have perceived Yashasvi Jaiswal as a major danger before the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. So here’s how Australian star spinner Nathan Lyon and ex-Aussie World Cup-winning coach John Buchanan responded to his performance recently:
Buchanan stated (via Hindustan Times): “There is a lot of talk about that, is not there? He is an exciting young player, and certainly one to watch, but he would be to me one of those examples. He (Jaiswal) has not played in Australia, or at least he has not played in Perth in a Test match on a wicket that bounces.”
“So, his ability to adjust his game to those conditions in some sense might be a barometer as to how India will go through the series,” he added.
Nathan Lyon further stated to Jaiswal (via The Times of India): “I haven’t come across him [Jaiswal] yet, but that will be a massive challenge for all us bowlers. The way he played against England, I watched that quite closely and thought that was quite amazing.”
Earlier this year, Yashasvi Jaiswal amassed 712 runs in the five-Test series against England, including two double centuries and three half-centuries.
