Former cricketer Allan Border slammed Australia’s “panicky and frenetic” batting performance in the second Test against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. He expressed his disappointment after the team’s loss in the match. The visitors lost the match by six wickets, in just three days and are two down in the four-match Test series.
Australia was in a decent position at the end of day two, leading by 62 runs with nine wickets in hand. However, their batting faltered the next morning and they were bowled out for 113 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with seven wickets in the innings. India was set a target of 115, which they chased down comfortably.
Speaking to Fox cricket, former Australia cricketer Allan Border expressed,
“I’m disappointed, I’m shell-shocked, I’m angry about the way we went about our work today,”
“It was panicky, frenetic batting. No one tried to get in there and stem the flow with some good defensive cricket. They were just getting out playing sweep shots, reverse sweeps to just about every ball,” he added.
Just can’t get away with that on this sort of track: Allan Border
Former cricketer Allan Border further expressed that the Australian team should have been more careful with their approach and the method of playing on Indian tracks. He added that Australia needs to work out the scoring options ahead of the third Test against India in Indore. Allan Border said,
“You just can’t get away with that on this sort of track. You’ve got to have a method where you play within your limitations. You’re not playing on a flat belter where you can expand your game. When playing on a difficult surface, you’ve got to work out where your scoring options are. And bat some time at the crease.”
