Team India have left for the UK for the rescheduled fifth and final Test against England, scheduled to commence on July 1 at Edgbaston. Incidentally, this Test was originally scheduled to take place last year but was postponed due to COVID-19 cases in the Indian camp.

The Test cricketers were given a break from the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa, barring Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. KL Rahul, who was also part of the T20I squad, injured himself on the eve of the series opener and was ruled out. He is likely to miss the Test match as well.

The Indian players assembled in Mumbai from where they left for England. The BCCI took to their social media handles to share a few snapshots from their journey. They captioned the post as:

“England bound: Snapshots as #TeamIndia takes off for England.”

India will play a four-day practice game against Leicestershire, which starts on June 24 before the final Test. Rohit Sharma and Co. currently lead the series 2-1 and will hope to maintain the lead and win the Pataudi Trophy.

KL Rahul Likely To Be Ruled Out Of The Test Match

Team India vice-captain KL Rahul is likely to miss out on the fifth and final Test against England. He suffered a groin injury while preparing for the T20I series against South Africa. It ruled him out of the five-match T20I series against the Proteas too.

“Rahul has not recovered from his groin injury. The Test squad members are assembling in Mumbai today and will fly out midnight. Rahul is not travelling with the team. He will take some more time to recover , although he might appear in a fitness test during the weekend. Chances of recovery aren’t looking bright,” a BCCI official said to PTI.

India haven’t named any replacement with Shubman Gill already in the squad as a backup opener.

Meanwhile, it is still unknown whether KL Rahul will be available for the limited-overs leg of the series, comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is.
