India secured an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series against Afghanistan by defeating them by six wickets in the second T20I. This series serves as the final preparatory stage before the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

Expressing his satisfaction, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, mentioned that the team is effectively translating their plans into action, ticking all the necessary boxes leading up to the T20 World Cup. The comprehensive victory saw Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube playing impactful innings, both scoring aggressive fifties, as India effortlessly chased down a target of 173.

Rohit Sharma said after the game: “We have been clear with what we wanted to do, very clear message to everyone and when you see a performance like that, you can be really proud. One thing is talking about it, but to actually go there and play that way is a proud feeling. The last two games, we’ve ticked a lot of boxes.”

“They’ve had a great couple of years, Jaiswal has played Test cricket now and even T20I. He has shown what he is capable of. He has the talent and has a great range of shots. Dube is a big guy, very powerful and can take on the spinners. That is his role and he has come out and played two crucial innings for us,” he again shared.

Axar Patel honoured as the Player of the Match for his excellent performance of claiming two wickets for 17 runs in four overs, mentioned that he focused on altering his length and deliberately bowled at a slightly slower pace.

Reflecting on his achievement, he expressed satisfaction, stating, “It feels good; I just acknowledged reaching the milestone of 200 T20 wickets. However, what truly matters is consistently performing well for India. Honestly, a few years down the line, I won’t remember the specific number of wickets; the focus is on contributing to the team’s success.”
