IND vs AUS: ‘He Plays Golf Right-handed’ – Sean Abbott Comments On David Warner’s Decision To Bat Right-Handed Against India

The India vs. Australia three-match ODI series is underway, and India has secured the series with two consecutive wins. This victory will boost their confidence with the 2023 ODI World Cup approaching.

In the second ODI, India impressively won by 99 runs in a rain-affected match. However, one of the key talking points of the game was David Warner, the experienced Australian opener, choosing to bat right-handed against Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Warner, with a score of 53 off 39 balls, was in good form and tried to face Ashwin as a right-handed batter, but this move led to his dismissal shortly after. Australian pacer Sean Abbott provided an interesting perspective on Warner’s decision to bat right-handed during a high-pressure game.

Abbott mentioned that since Warner plays golf right-handed, he attempted this unconventional approach to disrupt Ashwin’s rhythm.

“I think if David Warner is just going to sit there and bat left-handed, Ashwin is not going to miss his length too often,” Abbott said.

“With the ball spinning so much, he’s got the one that goes the other way, the straighter one, and all the variations along with that. Davey just thought he had to change it up,” Sean Abbott was quoted as saying by OneCricket.

“He plays golf right-handed, we see how dynamic he is with his switch-hitting and stuff, so he weighed up those options. He’s done it before, he practices batting in the nets,” he added.

Australia faced a big loss in the second ODI, resulting in their series defeat

Rain disrupted the second ODI, making it challenging for Australia to chase the revised target of 317 runs in 33 overs. Under pressure, the Australian team struggled with their run rate and lost wickets consistently. Mohammed Shami stood out as a key bowler, disrupting the Australian batting lineup with his exceptional performance.

As a result, India secured a convincing 99-run victory, clinching the series and aiming for a clean sweep in the upcoming third ODI scheduled for September 27 in Rajkot.
