Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian Cricket Team started the T20I series with a thrilling 2-wicket win over Australia in high high-scoring match at Vizag on 23rd November 2023.
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to field first. Ravi Bishnoi got the initial breakthrough after a decent start by Smith and Matthew Short. Josh Inglis produced a magical knock that put pressure on Indian bowling with a quickfire century that helped Australia post 208 for 3. Ravi Bishnoi and Mukesh Kumar took 1 wicket each for India while Smith was run out.
Chasing down 209 runs to win, Gaikwad was run out without facing any delivery. Jaiswal showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on Aussies bowling before providing simple catch that put India on the backfoot. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan showed intent not allowing them to settle hitting boundaries and sixes at will. Kishan was dismissed for a well-made 58. Kishan and Surya added 112 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Suryakumar Yadav looked in sublime touch putting the pressure on Aussies bowling that kept India on course for a win. He was dismissed with a stunning catch by Aaron Hardie running back.
“It’s a good thing that our team won the match. It was the perfect situation for me when I went in to bat. I was feeling good playing alongside Surya bhai (Suryakumar Yadav). I was just thinking about what I’ve done in the past chasing such scores, and focused on staying as calm as I could and take the game to the final over,” Rinku told BCCI.
Rinku Singh’s brilliance
Rinku Singh came to the crease with India losing the 4th wicket of Tilak Varma. He came to the crease and looked in decent touch hitting some lovely shots that put pressure back on Aussies bowling.
The match went right down the wire as India lost the wickets of Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh. Rinku Singh hit a six but it was no-ball. He remained not out on 22 off 14 deliveries with 4 boundaries that helped India register 2 2-wicket win with 0 balls to spare.
“I had a talk with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) about what he does in the final few overs. He told me that it’s important to stay calm and look to hit straight. That’s what I follow. I try to stay calm, and hit my shots with low reaction,” Rinku added.
Rinku Singh had a breakout IPL 2023 season for Kolkata Knight Riders. He scored 474 runs from 14 matches ( 14 innings) at a strike rate of 149.73 including 4 half-centuries including 5 successive sixes off Yash Dayal against Gujarat Titans.
