Shreyas Iyer shone with the bat during the second ODI between India and Australia at the Holkar International Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24.
After struggling with scores of 14 runs off 9 balls against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 and three runs off eight deliveries in the first ODI against Australia due to a long injury break, Shreyas Iyer displayed a positive mindset in the Indore ODI. He notched up his 15th half-century in just 41 balls, including one six and seven boundaries.
During the year 2023, Iyer faced a severe back injury that resulted in nerve compression and a herniated disc. The pain was agonizing to the extent that it extended all the way to his toe.
This injury compelled him to pull out from numerous vital matches, including the World Test Championship final and the Asia Cup Super-4 contest against Pakistan. Nevertheless, despite this adversity, Iyer maintained his unwavering determination to make a comeback to the field.
Iyer reached his fifty by hitting a six over long-off in the 16th over, taking advantage of a free hit after a no-ball from debutante Spencer Johnson. His performance earned him a standing ovation from his Indian teammates and head coach Rahul Dravid.

In the second ODI, Iyer and Shubman Gill provided a superb start for Team India with a century partnership for the second wicket. This came after the early dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad. As of the current moment, India is at 171/1 after 22.3 overs, with both Gill and Iyer in their 70s.
Australia, led by stand-in captain Steve Smith, won the toss and chose to bowl first, making three changes to their lineup with Josh Hazlewood, Alex Carey, and debutant Spencer Johnson included. Regular captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, and Marcus Stoinis were rested for this match.
On the other hand, India made one change, with Prasidh Krishna replacing the unavailable Jasprit Bumrah. India leads the three-match ODI series 1-0, having won the opening game by five wickets thanks to Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul.
