The Indian cricket team made a strong comeback into the series with a commanding 106-run victory in the 2nd Test played at Vizag on 5th February 2024.
It was an impressive performance by the Indian team as they posted 396 runs in the first innings with major contributions by Jaiswal. Jasprit Bumrah led from the front with match match-turning spell that helped India take a 143-run lead going into the second innings.
The second innings saw Shubman Gill score a well-compliant century and set a target of 399 runs. Indian bowlers held onto their nerves with a superb display to register a comprehensive 106-run victory to level the series at 1-1.

- Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah had a dream outing in the 2nd test match with 9 wickets in the entire match. He bowled a sensational spell during the first innings. His bowling comprised top-quality reverse swing bowling that dented England’s batting.
Bumrah rattled the England batting getting rid of Joe Root, Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Tom Hartley, and finished off by dismissing James Anderson. He shattered the stumps of Ollie Pope with a stunning yorker. Bumrah picked up 6 for 45 in 15.5 overs.
In the second innings also Bumrah delivered the goods with the ball. Right before the lunch break on day 4, Bumrah dismissed Jonny Bairstow with a stunning delivery. He was introduced again and dismissed Foakes taking a good return catch. Bumrah ended the innings getting rid of Hartley shattering the stumps finishing with figures of 3 for 46 in 17.2 overs. For his 9 wickets, Bumrah was named player of the match award.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal played a key role in helping the Indian team post 396 runs in the first innings. Jaiswal looked in great touch putting pressure on inexperienced England spinners including Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir, and Rehan Ahmed.
He looked in an attacking mood keeping the scoreboard ticking. Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat, Rajat Patidar, and Axar Patel got starts but were not able to convert into a big score. Jaiswal remained not out on 179 as India ended the first day at 336 for 6.
Jaiswal completed his double century with a six ensuring that India ended the first innings for 396. He looked in attacking touch on the 2nd evening before being dismissed by James Anderson on the 3rd morning.
- Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill had a disappointing outing in the first test at Hyderabad. He looked confident in the first innings with a lovely 34. Gill showed some intent against the spinners keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Gill survived a few anxious moments in the 2nd innings given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not out. He also survived the umpires call decision. He showed his class by putting pressure on the England bowlers.
His batting put pressure on the England bowlers keeping the scoreboard ticking. He along with Shreyas Iyer added 81 runs for 3rd wicket. Gill looked composed putting on an excellent display of batting completing his 3rd Test century and ensuring that India set a challenging target of 399 runs in the second innings.
