Alastair Cook marveled at the display of power hitting by Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal during the 3rd Test match against England in Rajkot, where Jaiswal’s onslaught of twelve sixes propelled him to a match-winning double hundred. Former England captain Cook, in a playful comparison, lauded Jaiswal’s performance, noting that the Indian batsman hit more sixes in one innings than Cook did in his entire Test career.
Jaiswal’s remarkable feat occurred on Day 4 of the 3rd Test, where he secured his second consecutive double century, joining the ranks of Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli as the only Indians to achieve this milestone. His innings was highlighted by a record-breaking twelve sixes and fourteen fours. This remarkable display came from a batsman who had retired hurt the previous day due to back spasms but chose to return to the field and continue his onslaught alongside his teammate Sarfaraz Khan.
Cook said: “Yashasvi Jaiswal hit more sixes in an innings than I did in my entire career.”
The 22-year-old’s blitzkrieg with the bat not only equaled Wasim Akram’s record for the most sixes in an innings but also propelled him to surpass Rohit Sharma’s tally for the most sixes in a Test series by an Indian. Jaiswal’s assault on England’s veteran pacer James Anderson, where he hit a hat-trick of sixes, exemplified his dominance at the crease.
Jaiswal’s partnership with Sarfaraz Khan, which yielded 172 runs in just 26.2 overs, further showcased India’s formidable batting prowess. Their performance guided India to a commanding lead of 575 runs, ultimately leading to England’s collapse and India’s biggest-ever Test victory in terms of runs, securing a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.
