Team India completed a dominating victory over England on the 3rd day of the 5th test match played at HPCA Stadium, Dharmshala on 9th March 2024. It was a superb bowling effort as R Ashwin broke the backbone of England’s top order dismissing Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Zak Crawley cheaply to leave them in trouble.
Jonny Bairstow looked in great touch taking on R Ashwin with big shots. Kuldeep Yadav was introduced into the attack getting rid of Bairstow. Bairstow and Root added 56 runs for the 4th wicket. R Ashwin produced a peach to dismiss Ben Stokes at the stroke of lunch break. Indian bowlers kept plugging picking wickets at regular intervals. Stand-in captain Bumrah dismissed Hartley and Mark Wood in the same over to leave England in tatters.
Joe Root provided the resistance for England with a well-complished fifty. He played some lovely shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. Shoaib Bashir also provided resistance before Jadeja dismissed him with a peach. Bashir and Root added 48 runs for the 9th wicket. Kuldeep Yadav finished off the innings with a good catch by Bumrah at long-on to bowl out England for 195 runs.
For his match-winning efforts, Kuldeep Yadav was named the player of the match while Yashavi Jaiswal was named the player of the series award. After Opting to bat first, England batters looked in a comfortable position at 100 for 1 before Kuldeep Yadav broke the backbone of the visitors team picking 5 wickets to dismiss them for just 218.
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal had a great start to the innings, putting on 104 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored centuries that laid a strong foundation for India to post a big total. Sarfaraz Khan and debutant Devdutt Paddikal scored half-centuries.
Despite the fall of quick wickets, Kuldeep Yadav and Bumrah stitched an important partnership for the 9th wicket before being bowled out for 477.
Here is how everyone reacted:
When we were doing game plans for #INDvENG series in south Africa @StarSportsIndia My prediction was 4-1 India. Well done team India. They were many hurdles but winning against Bazball has been satisfying.

India cruises to another win as England struggles to put up a fight. Root fought a lone battle. Kudos to @ashwinravi99 for his stellar performance 🔥🔥36th 5-wicket haul and 9 wickets on his 100th Test match. Bravo, Ash! 👏🏾#IndvEng pic.twitter.com/TpyOfdGGgi

36 five wicket hauls!
Thirty six! 😮
It sounds more and more unbelievable the more you think about it. What a champion performer! GOAT 🐐 #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/iRkbJV5RaV— Wasim Jaffer (@WasimJaffer14) March 9, 2024
Yet another home series win and it won't get even half the hype, but what makes this even more stellar is that India play in so many vast conditions. Ashwin spoke about how he changed his action a few times this series as every venue is different.
Makes it even more phenomenal

So many moments and takeaways from this series but the best one for me was the opportunities provided to the youngsters in this series. It was great to see them playing and showing their might in the same way #TeamIndia is known for.
Well done boys! 🇮🇳#INDvENG pic.twitter.com/gsdAzcH2Yl— DK (@DineshKarthik) March 9, 2024

After losing the first test & already getting called out,#RohitSharma𓃵 created history by winning a series 4-1 after losing the first!! w this win he also maintains his unbeaten stint in series as captain 👏🏻 400+ runs for him with 2 100s ❤️🔥#INDvENG • #RohitSharma • #INDvsENG pic.twitter.com/tXhYzK0KPu

Alongside the gulf in skill levels, the biggest difference between the two teams was the desire to win. Whilst a member of the Indian team always stepped up when the chips were down, the visitors proved to have no stomach for a fight when the going got tough.#INDvsENG
