Naushad Khan got emotional as years of hard work and tons of runs in domestic cricket earned his son Sarfaraz Khan a Test debut for India after a long wait. The Mumbai batter was handed the test cap by Anil Kumble before the third test against England at Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot.

Sarfaraz Khan has a brilliant record in first-class cricket averaging 69.85. He was banging on the Indian test doors for many years and was finally rewarded with the cap. As the Mumbai batter received his cap, Naushad Khan stood at a distance witnessing the memorable occasion.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on social media from the debut cap ceremony.  Naushad Khan spoke about his son’s test debut. Recalling how he felt when Sarfaraz Khan was ignored for the last few years, he said,

“Jo mera khwab hai aakhon ka hissa kyu nahi hota, diye hum bhi jalate hai, ujaala kyu nahi hota”.

Naushad Khan further expressed that he is delighted to see Sarfaraz make his test debut for India. He also advised the aspiring cricketers to stay patient and keep working hard. In the video shared by the BCCI, Naushad Khan said,

“Initially I used to wonder why my dream is not getting fulfilled. But after Sarfaraz has got his debut cap, I want to just say to all the other aspiring cricketers who are working hard, Raat ko waqt do guzarne ke liye, Suraj apne hi samay par Niklega. Things will happen only when the time comes, our job is to work hard, stay patient and not lose confidence.”

I am more happy for my father than me: Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan credited his father, Naushad for his success so far in his cricketing career. He expressed that he is more happy for his father than himself on his test debut. The Mumbai batter impressed one and all smashing a brisk fifty. He scored 62 runs from 66 deliveries, with nine boundaries and a six. Sarfaraz Khan said in the video shared by the BCCI,

“I used to have tears in my eyes thinking about when I would get an opportunity. My father just told me to keep working hard and nobody can stop you. I think having confidence and staying patient is very important.”

Sarfaraz Khan also added, “It’s a very proud feeling to be playing for India, I am more happy for my father than for me.”
