IND vs NZ: Jasprit Bumrah Battles Through Finger Injury

During the first Test match between India and New Zealand, India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah suffered a painful injury to his middle finger while bowling. On Day 3 of the match, Bumrah’s finger began bleeding after delivering the third ball of the 86th over of the innings.

Despite the injury, Bumrah showcased immense resilience by finishing the over. India’s physio was called to the field to tend to the wound, but Bumrah refused to let the injury sideline him. After having his finger taped, the pacer returned to bowl another over, demonstrating true grit and determination.

Injuries Plague the Indian Team

India has faced multiple injury setbacks during the ongoing match. Shubman Gill was dealing with neck and shoulder pain before the Test even began, limiting his performance. On Day 2, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant experienced knee discomfort, forcing him to leave the field temporarily.

Bumrah’s injury added to the growing list of concerns for the Indian team, though his decision to keep bowling provided a morale boost. Despite these challenges, the team continued to show resilience in their efforts against a tough New Zealand side.

India’s Fightback on Day 3

New Zealand posted a formidable total of 402 in their first innings, thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s impressive century and Tim Southee’s explosive knock of 65. India’s response was much improved from their first innings performance.

Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma built a solid foundation with a partnership of 72 runs. Key batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Sarfaraz Khan all contributed half-centuries, keeping India in the game. However, the day ended on a slightly sour note as Virat Kohli was dismissed for 70 on the final ball of Day 3, leaving India at 231/3, still trailing by 125 runs.
