Suryakumar Yadav becomes 3rd batter to score 4 T20I centuries

The Indian Cricket Team produced a dominating display with 106 runs in the 3rd T20I against South Africa at Wanders, Johannesburg on 14th December 2023.

South African captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to field first. Shubman Gill and Tilak Varma got out cheaply. Suryakumar Yadav struggled initially against disciplined bowling as Yashavi Jaiswal showed intent putting pressure on inexperienced bowling. Surya played safely taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries against Shamsi and Maharaj.

Surya upped the ante smashing 23 runs off Andile Phehlukawyo’s over and made the batting look easy. He completed his fifty off 32 deliveries. It was a superb batting display by the Indian captain hitting boundaries and sixes with ease. He played with an attacking approach against South African pacers.

Despite losing wickets at the other end, Surya kept calm and completed the fourth century in the T20I format off 55 balls. He was eventually caught at the boundary for 100 off 56 balls with 7 fours and 8 sixes at a strike rate of 178.57. His innings helped India post 201 for 7 in 20 overs.

The Indian bowling looked impressive as Mukesh Kumar struck early dismissing Matthew Breetekze. It was a superb bowling display as they never allowed the South African batters to score runs easily. Kuldeep Yadav wreaked havoc with some lovely bowling display finishing with figures of 5 for 17 in 3 overs. He left the South African batters and struggled with his variations.

Kuldeep got wickets of Ferreria, Keshav Maharaj, Burger, and Williams and ended up dismissing David Miller. India won the match by 106 runs to level the series at 1-1. Suryakumar Yadav was named the player of the match for his century and also named the player of the series for his century and half-century.

Suryakumar Yadav joins Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell to score 4 centuries in T20I format. The explosive right-handed batter scored centuries in England, New Zealand, India and now in South Africa.

He has scored 2141 runs from 60 matches (57 innings) with 4 centuries and 17 half-centuries at a strike rate of 171.55 and the best score of 117. Since making his T20I debut on 14th March 2021 against India in Ahmedabad, Surya has shown the ability to change gears and made sure that he makes the batting look easy.
