India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has been giving an update regarding Shubman Gill’s neck injury and mentioned that the captain is still under consideration and the decision about the second Test participation will soon be made. During the Kolkata Test first innings, Gill got a neck spasm, which required him to be admitted to the hospital for medical treatment.
The Indian captain had hit a four off the very first ball he faced and shortly after that, he experienced discomfort in the neck area, which led to the physiotherapists coming to his aid. He was later on removed from the ground and at the conclusion of Day 2, he was admitted to the hospital.
Gambhir was very optimistic that the players’ facilities and the team’s chances to win in a variety of conditions were in place for the second Test in Guwahati, by stating that they have the guys to accommodate in any condition.
“Gill is still being assessed”- Gautam Gambhir

“He (Gill) is still being assessed. So, let’s see. The physios will take a call today evening and we will take a call,” said Gambhir.
The Indian batting lineup was greatly affected by Shubman Gill’s injury, since the team was finding it hard to cope with South Africa’s spin bowlers. In the first innings, India went down from 109 for three to 189 all-out after the neck injury forced Gill to leave the field. The Indian captain’s exit appeared to set off a downward trend, revealing the weaknesses in the batting order.
In the second innings, India already had a hard task ahead, as they were to chase 124 runs for victory. But the start of their innings could not have been worse, as the openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were dismissed very early. Washington Sundar and Axar Patel managed to hold the innings together to some extent.
Right now, India’s prospects are tied to Gill’s health, with the second Test against South Africa set to start on November 22.
