The India vs England Test series kickstarts the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. New Zealand beat India in the final to win the inaugural edition last month. Thie high-octane Test series now has garnered all the attention of the cricket world with former Australian skipper Ian Chappell also joining the bandwagon. He has shared his thoughts on India’s chances of winning the series away from home. They lost the Test series 4-1 the last time they played in England in 2018.
Ian Chappell said India has an even chance of winning the Test series in England. He further said that the current Indian pace attack makes them one of the best in the world and contenders to win the series.
“In recent years India have joined the ranks of pace-bowling proficient teams. As a consequence, they have enjoyed success in Australia, reached the final of the WTC, and now have an even-money chance of beating England on their home turf,” Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNcricinfo.

He further wrote that the likes of Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami has made India a force to reckon with. Along with the Indian pacers, he also praised the Kiwi pace trio of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner.
“New Zealand’s pace quartet — Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Neil Wagner, and Kyle Jamieson — made possible their presence in the final. Then in the prolonged battle with India for supremacy, the quick bowlers led the last-day victory charge.”
India beat England 3-1 in the four-match Test series at home earlier this year. Now in the reverse fixture of this historic rivalry, India and England have their eyes set on winning the next edition of the World Test Championship.
England have won the ODI series against Sri Lanka after beating them in the T20Is. The third and final game in Bristol was called off due to rain. The Lankans were bowled out for 166 in the third ODI before rain played spoilsport.
