The former Indian skipper Mithali Raj has said that India has a considerable opportunity to achieve success at the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG 22), in Birmingham, as it has its tactics and strategies in place.

India is placed in Group A along with Australia, Barbados, and their traditional rivals Pakistan. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Women in Blue will start the CWG campaign on July 29 with a game against mighty Australians.

Raj, who announced her international retirement last month said: “I think before any big event, preparation is very important. If you prepare well and because it’s a T20 format and Commonwealth Games, if you have your tactics and strategies in place we have a great chance to finish on the podium.”

The right-hand batter was speaking at a promotional event for an upcoming movie ‘Shabaash Mithu’. The movie is based on Raj’s life so far, starring Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu.

India recently won a bilateral 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, away from home, by 2-1.

Harmanpreet Kaur is experienced enough to lead the team in the Commonwealth Games- Mithali

Raj, having played with Kaur, furthermore, said that the righty all-rounder is experienced enough to lead the Indian side at the CWG 22. Raj, who has more than 7000 One Day International runs in her account, said: “She (Harmanpreet) has been leading in T20s since 2016, so I think she is experienced enough to lead (the team) in the Commonwealth Games.”

Besides, the CWG crusade will be India’s next big challenge after the miserable World Cup ride earlier this year. Kaur, the full-time Indian skipper after Raj, just finished the Sri Lanka schedule on a high, as the side managed a 3-0 win in the One Day International series.

Moreover, the semi-finals will be played on August 6, while the battle for the gold medal will be held on August 7. The overall tournament (CWG 22) comprising different sports, will be played from July 28 to August 8.
