As Team India look to resume their international duties after a gap of nine months, former skipper Sunil Gavaskar has admitted Virat Kohli & Co will miss the service of Ishant Sharma and Rohit Sharma. Incidentally, both cricketers are out of action owing to individual injuries they sustained during IPL 2020 in the UAE.
Ishant played only one match in IPL 2020 before returning home with an injury. Rohit Sharma also sustained an injury during the 13th edition of the tournament and there have been highly confusing stances from the BCCI’s point of view concerning his injury. At present, they are not only ruled out from the first two Tests but also remain unsure of participating in the entire series.
India will miss Ishant, Rohit – Sunil Gavaskar
As India set the ball rolling from November 27 (Friday), Sunil Gavaskar has stated that India will certainly miss the service of Ishant Sharma and Rohit Sharma. The swashbuckling opener has been at the heart of India’s batting for a couple of years now while Ishant spearheaded India’s attack during their first-ever series win Down Under in 2018-19.
They’ll certainly miss the Sharmas. Ishant does not play as many one-day games now, but Rohit definitely is a big factor. Because he is at the top of the innings in all formats of the game now since he started opening the batting in Test cricket last year. So he is, you know, the key in getting the team off to a very good start and his absence in the white-ball games will certainly hamper India in getting off to a flying start,” Sunil Gavaskar told Michael Holding in the latter’s Youtube channel.

Meanwhile, it still remains to be seen if Ishant Sharma and Rohit Sharma finally manage to land in Australia for the last two Tests. They are currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore nursing their injuries.
