India To Play Warm-Up Game Against India A in Perth

India is set to face India A in a three-day warm-up match as part of their preparations for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This internal fixture will take place at the WACA in Perth from November 15 to November 17, 2024.

India A, likely to be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will have already played two matches against Australia A before this game. The warm-up match will provide India’s Test players a valuable opportunity to acclimatize ahead of the first Test, which is scheduled for November 22, 2024, at the new Perth Stadium.

India A’s Key Role in Preparations

India A, featuring several Test regulars, will play an important role in India’s preparation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Before their match against the senior team, India A will compete in two games against Australia A—the first at the Great Barrier Reef Arena from October 31 to November 3, and the second at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from November 7 to November 10.

These fixtures will be crucial for both teams as they prepare for the highly anticipated series. Australia A’s squad, to be announced soon by Cricket Australia’s chief selector George Bailey, may see some changes due to injuries, particularly with Cameron Green potentially missing out on the series due to a back injury.

A Platform for Emerging Talent

Cricket Australia’s Peter Roach emphasized the importance of these warm-up fixtures for emerging players. Hosting these games at prominent venues such as the Great Barrier Reef Arena and the MCG elevates their significance, providing young cricketers a platform to prove themselves and push for selection in the senior team.

While Cricket Australia did not reveal many details about the match, they confirmed that it is entirely up to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to decide how they utilize the game, including whether some Test players will feature in the India A matches.

The first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between India and Australia will begin on November 22, 2024, marking the start of what promises to be an exciting series.
