India will square off against Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series, which gets underway on Thursday, August 18, at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. The Men in Blue will be high on confidence, having thrashed England and West Indies in their last two series. They will hope to continue the momentum against a weaker Zimbabwean side.
All eyes will be on KL Rahul, who returns to the side after a long injury haul. Thursday’s match will be Rahul’s first in competitive cricket since the IPL eliminator in May, following surgery and rehabilitation for his groin injury, as well as being laid low by Covid-19. Another player who could do with game time is Deepak Chahar, who is coming back from an even longer injury layoff and is in a race against time to convince the Indian think-tank to keep him in their plans for the T20 World Cup.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be high on morale after the series win against Bangladesh. However, they will have to play out of their skins to upset a star-studded Indian team.
This series is a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, meaning each match will carry 10 points. Zimbabwe, who are 12th right now on the 13-team table, will be desperate to win the remaining matches as they aim for a direct entry to ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
