Former cricketer Kapil Dev expressed that Team India will enter the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup as favourites. However, he added that the team must manage to cope with expectations in order to win the title for the third time. The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will take place in October-November in India.
Team India hasn’t won an ICC trophy in more than a decade. They last won an ICC event in 2013, when India defeated England in the Champions Trophy. They reached the finals of the ICC World Test Championship earlier this year but lost to Australia. With the ODI World Cup set to take place in India, the team will be eager to end the ICC trophy drought. Former skipper Kapil Dev shared that India has to cope with the expectations. He also hoped that the players would be fully prepared for the mega-event.
“I don’t know how it will pan out. They are yet to announce the team for the World Cup. India will always enter a tournament as favourites as it has been the case for a long time, ” Kapil Dev said to PTI.
“It’s all about how the team comes to terms with the expectations from all sides. We have won a World Cup at home, and I am sure the team, whoever gets selected, can do it again. A World Cup is coming in four years, and I hope the players will be fully prepared,” he added.
Managing your body is important to keep away from injuries: Kapil Dev
Former cricketer Kapil Dev never missed a game due to injury in his international career. However, in today’s times, injury breakdowns have become common. Team India is struggling with frequent injuries to key players, including Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer has been out for nearly a year. Talking about the injury breakdowns, Kapil Dev expressed,
“My time was different as we hardly played so much cricket. Now, these players are playing some 10 months of cricket. So, managing your body is important to keep away from injuries. Everybody’s body is different and they would require individual plans to preserve their fitness.”
