Injury Concern For Australia Women’s Team As Alyssa Healy Left The Field With A Foot Injury During The AUS vs PAK Match In The T20 World Cup

Australia women’s team captain Alyssa Healy had to leave the field after retiring hurt due to a calf injury during the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup Group A match against Pakistan at Dubai International Stadium on October 11. The injury occurred while she was running between the wickets as Australia aimed for another convincing win.

Healy was in excellent form, leading the chase for a modest target of 83 after Australia chose to bowl first. She dominated the powerplay with three boundaries and was given a second chance when Nashra Sandhu dropped her at long-off. At the time of her injury, she was batting at 37 runs off 23 balls.

As Australia neared the target, Ellyse Perry drove the first ball of the 10th over down the ground, appearing set for a routine double. However, Healy began to limp while completing her second run, clutching her left leg. The medical team quickly came onto the field to evaluate her injury.

The challenging temperatures and humidity have led to frequent cramps during the tournament. However, Healy’s reaction indicated that her issue was more serious than a typical muscle cramp. She ultimately had to leave the field and had difficulty putting weight on her injured leg. The captain was seen hobbling up the stairs on one leg, leaving everyone anxious to learn the extent of her injury.

Australia faced two significant injuries in the same match, with Healy and Vlaeminck both affected

Pacer Tayla Vlaeminck, who stepped in for Grace Harris in the playing XI, dislocated her shoulder while attempting to save a boundary early in the tournament. Cricket Australia released a statement confirming that the shoulder has been reset, and further details about the injury will be provided in the coming days.

Healy’s injury is a significant setback for Australia, especially with upcoming matches against India and the knockout stages ahead. If the situation worsens, the team will face several tough decisions.

Phoebe Litchfield is expected to take her place as an opener, while Tahlia McGrath is likely to assume leadership duties as vice-captain.
