Pakistan Chief Selector and former cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has decided to step down from his post by the end of this month. Following Pakistan”s group-stage exit in the recently concluded World Cup, Inzamam seemed to have taken this decision.
Inzamam was appointed as the chief selector in August 2016. His tenure will finally come to an end by July, a period of three years. In the latest press conference, he revealed that he isn”t renewing the contract and wanted to pass on the post to fresh faces.
“With the ICC World Test Championship due to get underway in September, the ICC T20 World Cup in 2020 and the ICC Men”s Cricket World Cup 2023, I believe it is the right time for the Pakistan Cricket Board to appoint a new chief selector who can bring in new ideas and fresh thinking”, said Inzamam.
The PCB now has a lot of homework to do alongside the plans for the renovation of their existing side. Though they gave their best on the field, they weren”t able to show the prowess in crunch situations. Further development of this news is expected.
Inzamam has been responsible for introducing quite a few faces in the Pakistan team say, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi and youngster Shadab Khan. He took the right move of including Harris Sohail onto the side who later proved to be an asset down the order. Undoubtedly, one of his memorable stints would be 2017 Champions Trophy triumph at England.
