IPL 2018: Delhi Daredevils knock Mumbai out of IPL 11 with a thrilling 11 run win

Delhi Daredevils dashed Mumbai Indians hopes of reaching the playoff stage with a thrilling 11 run in the 55th match of VIVO IPL 2018 played at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi. DD captain Iyer won the toss and elected to bat. Pant continued his brilliant form and contributions from Vijay Shankar helped DD to post a competitive total. While chasing, MI lost wickets at regular intervals but Cutting played a blinder of an innings, could not help defending Champions to go past the winning line.

Delhi Daredevils captain Sheryas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first. Prithvi Shaw and Maxwell got the team off to a decent start adding 30 runs for opening wicket in 3.1 overs. Shaw was run out for 12 runs. Glenn Maxwell played few good shots before being dismissed for 22 runs. At the end of 6 overs, DD scored 46 for 2.

After the power play overs, Pant looked in aggressive touch and added 37 runs for the 3rd wicket. Iyer was dismissed for 6 runs. The stylish left-handed batsman played sensibly reaching his half-century off 34 balls. Both Vijay Shankar and Pant added 64 runs for the 4th wicket. Vijay Shankar played a cameo knock scoring 43 off 30 balls and Abishek Sharma also scored 15 off 10 balls. Both of them added 35 runs unbeaten for the 5th wicket. DD posted a competitive total of 174 for 4 in 20 overs. For Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, Markande picked 1 wicket each.

Chasing 175, Mumbai Indians opener Surya Kumar Yadav scored 12 runs and was dismissed in the very first over itself. Ishan Kishan and Evin Lewis steadied the innings with attacking stroke play. At the end of 6 overs, Mumbai Indians scored 57 for 1.

After the power play overs, Ishan Kishan was dismissed by Mishra. Soon Amit Mishra dismissed dangerous Evin Lewis for 48 runs. Kieron Pollard failed to contribute any runs while Krunal Pandya could not score big runs. Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya added 43 runs for the 6th wicket. Hardik Pandya also went for 27 runs. Ben Cutting played a blinder of knock scoring 37 off 20 balls. With 18 runs required off the final, Cutting hit a six and then was dismissed by Harshal Patel. Bumrah was also dismissed to give Delhi Daredevils 11 run win.

For Delhi Daredevils, Lamichhane, Harshal Patel and Amit Mishra picked 3 wickets each.  DD ended the season on a high with their 5th win of the season.

DD 174 for 4 in 20 overs ( Pant 64, Vijay Shankar 43*, Maxwell 22, Bumrah 1/29) beat

MI 163 in 19.3 overs ( Evin Lewis 48, Ben Cutting 37, Hardik Pandya 27, Lamichhane 3/36, Harshal Patel 3/28, Mishra 3/19 ) by 11 runs.

MI captain Rohit Sharma said: It was a disappointing way to end the season on a losing note. We lost wickets at regular intervals. Ben Cutting played very but left it late. Very proud of the way we fought after a bad start to the tournament. We needed someone to stay until the end.

DD captain Sheryas Iyer said: Very happy to end the season on a high. Pant was outstanding again while Vijay Shankar also contributed important runs which helped us to post a competitive total on a tough wicket. Harshal Patel and Lamichhane bowled brilliantly. Hope for a better season next year.

Man of the match Amit Mishra said: Very happy to contribute with the ball. The ball was turning and we bowled a consistent line and lengths not allowing Mumbai Indians to score runs easily. We had a disappointing season this year. Hope to create more impact in the next season. Lamichhane was outstanding.
