IPL 2020: Aakash Chopra Rates The Skippers Ahead Of The Tournament

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is round the corner and is all set to be bigger and grand than earlier seasons. So much so, that the stakes of the cash-rich league which will begin on March 29 are on par to that of the ICC T20 World Cup which will follow later this year in Australia. Ahead of the mega event, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has rated all the skippers of the eight franchises.

Amidst the coronavirus threat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are positive to go with the tournament as per the schedule. It will be a replica of the last year’s final in the tournament opener with defending champions Chennai Super Kings playing Mumbai Indians in the opener at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

All the eight franchises look solid on paper and one expects a cracking season once again. With all the teams having most of their bases covered, it is a bit tough now to pick the clear favourites. However, cricketer-turned commentator Aakash Chopra has rated all the skipper but only time will tell whether his predictions will come true or not.

At number 8, Chopra went for KL Rahul who will be leading an IPL time for the first time in his career. After Ravichandran Ashwin’s departure, Kings XI Punjab named Rahul as the captain of their side. At seven, Chopra picked Shreyas Iyer, who will lead Delhi Capitals for the second season in a row. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s David Warner and Kolkata Knight Rider’s Dinesh Karthik occupy the sixth and fifth spot in the Aakash Chopra’s list.

Karthik was followed by India and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli at number four. Furthermore, Aakash Chopra picked Rajasthan Royal’s Steve Smith in the No. 3 spot, while there was a dilemma between Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni but the 42-year-old former cricketer went for Dhoni as the best skipper and Rohit had to settle for the second spot despite being the most successful captain with four IPL titles.
