Ajinkya Rahane has enjoyed the most success when he has opened the batting in his career. Even in the IPL when he represented the Rajasthan Royals, Rahane always batted at the top order. This year Rahane will be making his debut for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 which will kick off from September 19 in the UAE.
Now with Delhi Capitals already having the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer to bat in the top order, Rahane might find it difficult to play as an opener. Recently ahead of the IPL, Rahane was asked about his role in his new IPL franchise.
Rahane open to bat at 5 and 6 for Delhi Capitals
“I don’t know. We have to wait and watch as we start our practice sessions, then only we will have that communication”, Rahane told media persons in a web conference on Thursday.
Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of donning the finisher role in the upcoming IPL, Rahane stated that he is ready to bat at any position. The 32-year-old is only focused on giving his best and help Delhi Capitals win matches in the much anticipated IPL season.
Rahane said, “I have opened throughout my career and I have enjoyed that. But it is completely up to the team management as to what role they want to give me in the team. I will 100 per cent do that”.
“If I am told to bat at No 5 or 6, I will take it as it will be a new role for me and help me explore my game. So if you ask me, my answer is yes, I am ready”, he further added.
Moreover, Ajinkya Rahane currently has 4988 T20 runs from 196 matches in his career so far. The Delhi Capitals franchise will soon start their outdoor training in the UAE ahead of the IPL season. The 13th edition of the biggest T20 league will take place across three venues in 51 days in the United Arab Emirates.
