Inarguably one of the best cricketers behind the stumps, MS Dhoni, is known for making the least number of errors with the gloves on. The man is admired across the globe for his polished unorthodox keeping style. But mistakes happen, so it did on Wednesday when Chennai Super Kings were squaring off SunRisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi in the 23rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Winning the toss, SRH skipper David Warner chose to pad up first anticipating a change in their fortune, but it did not. However, opener Jonny Bairstow had a tinge of luck as he was dropped by MS Dhoni in the first over. His mistake evoked bowler Deepak Chahar to give a stern look.

Trying to capitalise on Chahar’s lack of pace, Bairstow came to a few steps forward. While the bowler tricked Bairstow by shortening the length, and Bairstow edged the bowl, that went into Dhoni’s gloves. Unfortunately, the ball popped out of Dhoni’s gloves, and he got a lifeline. However, it was not too expensive for the Yellow Army. Bairstow for out for seven. Deepak Chahar went wicketless in the match.

David Warner’s 55 off 57 set SRH off to a decent start. Manish Pandey’s 61 from 46 balls, and Kane Williamson went rampant with the willow. Williamson smashed 26 off 10 balls at the strike rate of 260. In reply, CSK were sublime since the beginning and chased down the target quite convincingly.
Chennai Super Kings were playing the sixth game of the season with four straight wins. Yesterday, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis powered them with a brilliant opening partnership. CSK chased down the total with nine balls to spare.
The MS Dhoni-led side are now the table toppers with five wins, and SRH with two points are at the bottom of the table. The Orange Army only won a solitary game against Punjab Kings. Both the teams kicked off their second leg in Delhi yesterday.
