Deepak Chahar’s spell ensured that CSK did not have to chase too many on a tricky Wankhede wicket. Moeen Ali’s 46 off 31 balls meant Chennai won the game inside 16 overs and in the process maintained a healthy run-rate. Faf Du Plessis unbeaten 36 provided stability to the Chennai chase after they lost Rururaj Gaikwad early. Mohammed Shami came back to dismiss Suresh Raina (8) and Ambati Rayudu (0) off back to back deliveries in the 15th over but CSK had the control of the game by then.

Deepak Chahar Sets Up CSK’s Win Over Punjab Kings

Earlier in the game, CSK won the toss and opted to bowl first, Deepak Chahar took advantage of the early seam and swing off the pitch. He took four wickets inside the powerplay as Punjab Kings were reduced to 26/6 inside the first seven overs. Shahrukh Khan (47 off 36) came up with a valiant effort but found little support from the other batters. While KL Rahul scored just five, Mayank Agarwal and Nicholas Pooran scored ducks. Chris Gayle and Deepak Hooda scored 10 each. There was hardly anything from Punjab’s lower-middle-order which meant that they barely managed to put a total on the board.

At the end, despite Shami’s double-wicket over, CSK were hardly in trouble throughout the chase. They dominated the game throughout and at the end registered a comfortable victory.

Punjab Kings after this loss will face Delhi Capitals in Mumbai on Sunday. CSK meanwhile face Rajasthan Royals next Monday.
