The IPL 2021 stands suspended as of now after recent COVID positive cases in two IPL franchises confirmed BCCI President Rajeev Shukla. Further reports suggest IPL is indefinitely suspended and they will probably regroup and continue in Mumbai. The news was confirmed after Saha and Mishra tested COVID positive on Tuesday morning.
Around 12 pm on Tuesday afternoon top BCCI officials took a final call of suspending the season as of now after pondering over moving the remainder of the season to Mumbai. Meanwhile, the latest development comes after Wriddhiman Saha and Amit Mishra tested COVID positive on Tuesday (May 4).
A total of four players from two different teams thus tested COVID positive on back to back days forcing the BCCI to come to this decision.
Cricbuzz understands that before arriving at this decision, some IPL officials called a few franchises to know their views on the tournament’s future. A few of them are learnt to have suggested to call it off totally.
Thus the IPL 2021 is in total disarray at the moment. From matches being postponed to players and the support staff testing positive the fourth week of IPL 2021 has not been welcoming.
IPL 2021 Stands Suspended
The IPL came out with an official statement regarding the suspension of the season at the moment.

“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect.
“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind.
“These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times.
“The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021. The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchises, sponsors, partners and all the service providers who have tried to their best to organise IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times,” IPL said in its official statement.
