IPL 2022: BCCI Likely To Allow Three Retentions Ahead of Next Season: Reports

As per reports in Cricbuzz, the BCCI is likely to allow as many as three retentions per team ahead of IPL 2022. Cricbuzz understands that during the recent meeting in Delhi, the BCCIand IPL officials deliberated on the way forward for the league, which is set to have 10 teams from next year.

A conversation regarding the retention of players was the topic that was discussed in this meeting. While the officials have unanimously decided that there should be retentions, the number was not fixed.

Meanwhile, as per reports, the BCCI and the IPL governing council are looking to keep as many as three retention options per team in the IPL. Previously the BCCI allowed franchises to retain as many as five players before every mega auction with the option of using Right To Match Card (RTM) card for the players of their liking. A total of 10 teams are likely to feature in the next edition of the IPL. The BCCI is working behind naming the two new teams in the league.

2nd half of IPL 2021 to begin on September 19

Meanwhile, the IPL 2021 UAE leg will be played between September 19-October 15. As many as 31 games will be played over 27 days. 13 games will be played in Abu Dhabi, 10 in Dubai and 8 in Sharjah.

Cricket Australia, in the meantime, has left it to the players to participate in the remaining leg of the IPL. Pat Cummins has already confirmed that he will not be a part of the remaining IPL season for KKR since he and his wife are expecting the birth of their first child.

There are 20 Australians – including the likes of Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Riley Meredith, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Moses Henriques and Glenn Maxwell for this year’s IPL and Cricket Australia has left it to them to decided their future this season.

Meanwhile, players from England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and West Indies have confirmed their participation for the second leg.
