The Indian Premier League 2022 season is all set to begin on March 26. Chennai Super Kings will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in the opener, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With just weeks away from the extravagant T20 league, the BCCI made changes to the playing conditions for the upcoming IPL edition.

The board has increased the number of DRS reviews per innings from one to two reviews. It has also endorsed the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) suggestion about who takes the strike in case of a caught dismissal.

It states that the new batter will take the strike in case of caught-out dismissal, irrespective of whether the batters have crossed or not.

“In each innings, the number of reviews has been increased from one to two. Upon a catch dismissal, irrespective of whether the batsmen have crossed or not the incoming batsman will take the strike, except if it’s the last ball of the over,” the BCCI informed the IPL franchises as quoted by Cricbuzz.

BCCI states new rules, in case super over is not possible

The BCCI has also decided that in case the time available does not permit a super over, then the team that finished higher in the league stage will win the game. This rule will also be applicable to the IPL finals.

“If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described, then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the league table will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” the rule stated.

In these times of COVID, many matches had to be canceled due to a team’s inability to field an XI, after a covid outbreak in the squad. The BCCI has now stated that they will try to reschedule such matches.

If it is not possible, it will be referred to the IPL Technical Committee, which will further decide.

“The BCCI, at its discretion, will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season. If this is not possible, the issue will be referred to the IPL Technical Committee. The decision of the IPL Technical Committee will be final and binding,” the conditions stated.
