The 10-team IPL 2022 will commence on March 26 with the mega final to be played on May 29. The 15th edition of the tournament will be played in a bio-secure environment at a single hub to avoid air travel.
A total of 70 league matches will be played across four international standard venues in Mumbai and Pune. The venue for the playoff matches will be decided later.
“The IPL Governing Council at its meeting held yesterday made the following key decisions regarding the TATA IPL 2022 Season. The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in a bio-secure environment at a single hub to avoid air travel which is considered as a major threat for the spread of COVID-19 infection, thereby affecting the players and the League/matches,” BCCI said in a statement.
The BCCI announced on Friday that the 10 IPL teams will play 14 league matches each, with all of them playing five teams twice and the remaining four teams just once.
The two groups of IPL 2022 are as follows:
Group A | Group B |
---|---|
MI | CSK |
KKR | SRH |
RR | RCB |
DC | PBKS |
LSG | GT |
Each team will play twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row in the other group. With the remaining four teams in the other group, they will play only once during the season.
For example, KKR will play twice in the league stages against MI, RR, DC, LSG and SRH (the team in the same row in the other group). Against CSK, RCB, PBKS and GT, KKR will play only once.
