Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has shown the tremendous talent that had played for their respective countries. Both franchises and BCCI agreed to hold the mini-auction for the 16th edition of IPL in Kochi on December 23, 2022.

Before the auction, the franchises released and retained many players in their squads for this year’s edition of IPL. IPL 2022 saw some brilliant performances over two months.

With the IPL2023  quite long away, the franchises started to make changes in the squads as few players have dropped down due to many reasons.

Here we look at the 5 players who can high big money during the IPL auction.

#1 Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes is the best all-rounder in white ball cricket. Stokes has played in 43 matches and scored 920 runs with 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries. He created an impact with both bat and ball changing the course of the game with all-rounder abilities.

He performed brilliantly in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022. Stokes struggled a lot initially but showed class with a match-winning knock in the finals against Pakistan. He made a match-winning knock of 42 in-or-die encounters against Sri Lanka helping the England team to qualify for the semi-finals. With his all-around abilities, franchises like Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad could buy the England all-rounder.

Stokes has grabbed 26 wickets at an economy of 8.40 runs per over. The all-rounder scored 585 runs at a strike rate of 130.63. The franchises would be mad to buy him and strengthen their side ahead of IPL 2023.

#2 Cameron Green

Cameron Green is a hard-hitting Australian batter that can change the course of the match with his power-hitting. Green was named as a replacement in T20 World Cup 2022 featuring in only 1 match against Afghanistan.

Green has scored 139 runs from 8 matches with the best score of 61, a strike rate of 173.75. The all-rounder has shown tremendous form since making his debut against Pakistan on April 5, 2022.

He has the ability to hit big shots against top-quality bowlers making life tough for the opposition captain. Green can fill the job of the fifth bowler that can create bounce and pick important wickets.

The all-rounder will be an added advantage for any IPL franchise and several IPL franchises could bid for him during IPL 2023 auction.

#3 Sam Curran

The left-handed all-rounder from England, Sam Curran would be an asset if he enters the IPL 2023 auction. He was the player of the tournament during T20 World Cup 2022 where he grabbed 13 wickets. Curran showed his class, returning with 3 for 12 in the final against Pakistan.

Sam Curran has played for Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings. He grabbed a total of 32 wickets including a hat trick. With the bat, the all-rounder scored 337 runs at an average of 22 and a strike of 149.78. Curran will be in high on demand for his great performances during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022. Curran’s highest score in IPL history has been 55 not out.

Sam Curran did not feature for Chennai Super Kings due to an injury. The franchises would be looking to buy him at a high price and look to utilize his all-around abilities.

#4 Nicolas Pooran

Nicolas Pooran had a decent outing for Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2022 IPL. He made a total of 306 runs from 14 matches (13 innings) and scored 306 runs at a strike of 144.34.

The hard-hitting West Indies batter looked out of form during the recently concluded T20 World Cup as 2-time Champions were knocked out in the first round. Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to release him ahead of IPL 2023 auction.

Pooran was bought for Rs 10.75 Crore during IPL 2022 by SRH. He could not be written off as franchises with high purse remaining can buy and strengthen their team.

#5 Paul Stirling

Paul Stirling has been the backbone of Ireland’s batting lineup in the T20 format. He created enough impact with the ability to smash opponent bowlers with ease and make the job of their respective teams easy.

He has shown tremendous attacking abilities right from the word go making life tough. Stirling never got an opportunity to play in the prestigious IPL. The explosive right-handed batter played 119 matches so far with 1 century and 21 half-centuries.

He opens the innings and does not allow the bowlers to settle in the first six overs. Stirling will be eager to perform well if given an opportunity to play in IPL 2023.
