On live television, an ex-BCCI selector trashes Manish Pandey: “I don’t want to talk about him; he shouldn’t even be in this team”.
For Delhi Capitals’ appalling performance in the IPL 2023, a former BCCI chairman of selectors harshly criticized Manish Pandey.
The Delhi Capitals beat the Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday, but it took them a while to get their first point on the IPL 2023 points board. Axar Patel ensured DC’s four-wicket victory as they successfully chased down the modest 121 required for victory.
Even though Delhi recorded its first victory of the year, weaknesses still exist. Before it’s too late, captain David Warner, coach Ricky Ponting and cricket director Sourav Ganguly must address the team’s batters’ collective failures.
Former cricket players as well as fans have begun to harbour resentments toward the Capitals. Former BCCI chairman Krishnamachari Srikkanth flatly refused to respond to a question about Manish Pandey during a discussion on the Star Sports Cricket Live show.
I don’t want to talk about Manish Pandey and Srikanth, so why are we? The man shouldn’t even be on the team. Let’s discuss how Axar Patel has been in the best shape of his life and deserves to bat higher.
I don’t want to discuss him, says Srikkanth. He doesn’t belong on this team. He wouldn’t have participated if I were the selectors’ chairman.
When it seemed like the conversation was going in an awkward direction, Sanjay Manjrekar took charge and brought up Pandey, explaining how the 33-year-old has more misses than hits.
Pandey was the first Indian to score an IPL century back in 2009. He even earned a call-up to the India team but he was never able to demonstrate his talent over the years.
Pandey has played for seven different teams including the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants last season and the Delhi Capitals this season.
Although Pandey has experienced more than 400 seasons. Most of them have been hot and cold. He has 97 runs this season from four games, including a half-century against RCB. Pandey played just 6 games for LSG last year as well but he still scored 88 runs.
